You might be aware of the fact that George Clooney got everybody's attention when he accepted to star in the TV series "ER", in 1994. What you don't know is that somewhere in 1984 there was an attempt to introduce another version of "ER" at a network, but apparently the pilot wasn't good enough to be accepted by any network owner.
Clooney must have really liked the idea of featuring this TV series as in
1994 he acceptedthe role of playing Dr. Doug Ross. This time, the
series had a great impact on the public and it soon became a smash-hit, bringing
everybody featuring in it into the bright light.
Essentially, "ER" deals with the work and lives of a group of doctors of a Chicago hospital's emergency room. The series consists of 14 seasons already, but George Clooney featured it from 1994 to 1999. During this period he put a lot of heart into his part, becoming a representative figure of the show broadcast by NBC.
Without any sense of modesty, NBC can be proud of owning the best drama show on TV. The beauty of "ER" stands not only in the physical dramas that are presented in each episode, it's in fact the human drama which attracts the viewer more. Even if the producers and script writers have romanticized it on purpose, the reality of the doctor profession is that even these people, who are fighting for the lives of the others, they too have to deal with matters of life and death, and this is one strong point that adds deeper emotions to the picture.
What shelters in the mind of an ER doctor? What is
his purpose and how can he make a difference between life at work and private
life? An emergency room doctor never gets enough sleep, never gets to go home to
his family, and when he finally does, he must come back at call if necessary.
What must he be built of to manage facing critical situations one after another
and make life-altering decisions every day? What about his personal life? Can he
manage not to get involved personally in the drama of his patients? Can he go
home and have a harmonious relationship and personal achievements? Some can,
some can't.
ER's success was achieved through hard work and dedication. It's not easy to stay in the TV's top broadcast series. Now it can boast about receiving many awards and having features big names of the TV and movie industry. From the writer and casting manager, to the director and editor, everybody has struggled to offer the best quality possible. Just look at how many Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and awards this series has!
And let's not forget that "ER" was a good thing to start with for an actor. Even from 1994, this show has passed as a host of very talented actors who took advantage of this occasion to go on to bigger and better performances and achievements. George Clooney himself has been waiting for so long for his doctor part and, when he finally got it, it was the best thing that could have happened to him. Many doors started to open and many offers to come towards him. I'm sure it wasn't easy for Clooney to leave the ER set in 1999, but, as one can say, "I came, I saw, I conquered", now I must go on with my life.
