George Clooney Filmography

George Clooney: TV Star ... Movie Star

People say that TV stardom can absolutely and necessarily disqualify an actor from achieving major success on the silver screen later on. This may be true, as not many TV series actors have succeeded in switching to movies and stayed there for a long time, also becoming famous for films. But it surely isn't impossible!

While George Clooney's TV career was quite prolific, it's the movies that fans expect from him every year. He may be the veteran of fifteen TV pilots and seven major TV series, but he's still up there with the biggest and brightest of the films.

"Ocean's Eleven", "Twelve" — the "Thirteen" is almost released — and that's not all! He's the Ocean of all titles, he had won an Oscar for his part in "Syriana" and had been nominated for directing and writing the screenplay of his recent "Good Night and Good Luck". Talk about being successful!

O Brother Where Art ThouWhile he was already starring in "ER", in 1995 George Clooney got his first major movie role in "The Peacemaker", followed by Tarantino's "From Dusk till Dawn" in 1996. The role of Bruce Wayne in "Batman and Robin" (1997) was both surprising and disappointing (for some), as Clooney used to state himself "I think I've buried that franchise!". Don't worry, gorgeous, it was the confusing script, overblown visual effects and the ear-splitting soundtrack!

In 1998 George accepted to play the role of a sassy but fallible escaped con in "Out of Sight" (Steven Soderberg), in which he was joined by Jennifer Lopez, and got some good reviews for his performance. He also appeared in a brief role in "The Thin Red Line", but his big screen fortune changed drastically when he got the part in David O Russell's "Three Kings" in 1999. The role fit Clooney like a glove and the movie proved to be an unusual political Hollywood action feature taking place during the Gulf War. Clooney's performance was highly rated and by the end of the film's release campaign, the actor also left the set of "ER", heading towards higher dreams.

Clooney entered the year 2000 by reuniting with MaThe Perfect Stormrk Wahlberg (who also starred in "Three Kings") and acting in an adaptation of Sebastian Junger's best selling novel "The Perfect Storm". George embodies Billy Tyne, the captain of a doomed fishing boat. This role solidified Clooney as a bankable big screen star.

In the same year, he also starred as the lead escaped convict Ulysses Everett McGill in "O Brother, Where Art Thou" in which he performed incredibly well. I saw another face of Clooney in that movie. I never thought of him singing like that!

But it's in 2001 that Clooney entered a carousel of great appearances, starting in Steven's Soderberg's smash hit "Ocean's Eleven". Just hearing the cast of this movie makes you anxious to see it: Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Julia Roberts, Andy Garcia, do you need more?

George Clooney played the leading role, that of Danny Ocean who developed the obsession of robbing a casino heavyweight and winning back his ex-wife. The script was so well conceived and people loved it so much they decided to continue the adventures of the 11 thieves in "Ocean's Twelve" (2004) and "Ocean's Thirteen" (to appear in 2007). 2001 is the year when Clooney and Soderberg set up the movie production studio Section Eight Productions as well.

George continued his movie career in 2002 with "Welcome to Collinwood", in which he played a crippled crook. A small but memorable role. It's in the same year that George tried his hand behind the camera and debuted as a director with "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind", inspired by the autobiography of TV producer Chuck Barris.

Good Night and Good Luck2005 was a very good year for George Clooney. When the Academy announced its nominees for the 2006 awards, Clooney found himself nominated twice: Achievement in Directing and Original Screenplay for "Good Night, and Good Luck" and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for "Syriana".

He was the first person in Oscar history to be nominated both as a director of a movie and as an actor in another movie in the same year. For his role in "Syriana" Clooney got an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor.

In 2006 Clooney has completed work on "The Good German" (Steven Soderberg) and "Michael Claynton". He is still filming "Ocean's Thirteen" (to appear in 2007) and has been called to appear in "Leatherheads" (2008).
